Time Management

Thursday Apr 2, 2009

Last month as part of my new Creating Online Success Inner Circle program I interviewed Sharon Tieman of Madame Marketing. The topic of the call was on Sharon’s 7 Bullet proof Marketing Tips and much more.

Sharon manages several businesses including a multimillion dollar business and for the majority of the time she works on it during school hours from her home office.

So on the call I also asked Sharon to share how she is able to fit so much into her time and her top 3 tips for getting the most from her time.

Here’s a glimpse into her answer and tips.

Top Tip 1. SYSTEMS.

One of the biggest breakthroughs for Sharon in managing her time was to create systems. Systems allow you to document all the tasks taking place in your business so you can begin delegating and free up your own time. Systems allow these tasks to be carried out more efficiently as systemizing a task is ten times more effective than just continually telling someone the same thing each time.

Top Tip 2. BE EFFECTIVE (rather than just EFFICIENT).

You can be efficient by having a clean in tray, a clean desk or everything organized. But are you actually being effective with your time? Sharon worked out where she was being most effective, rather than just being efficient. By effective this means actually working on tasks that are actually going to make money for your business.

Top Tip 3. Work on INCOME PRODUCING ACTIVITES every day.

Once you have worked out what tasks are actually going to increase revenue or benefit the business in some way then make sure these are top of your To-do list each day and given priority. Try not to get caught out in just doing those putting out fire type of tasks. It’s a great discipline and it’s really the thing that has made the difference every day.

Sharon and I both agreed that one of the most important tasks in your business is your marketing. Marketing is essential to both keep your existing clients and to attract new clients so your business continues to grow. Having a plan around your marketing and a strategy about what works and what doesn’t will also free up your time because you will become clear on what is really important (effective and income producing) to work on.

Can you give attention to these 3 tips and implement some changes for the better in your business?

Hi Belinda,
It’s great you have condensed these points, it makes it so much easier to digest! Hey - isn’t commenting on blogs an “incoming producing activity”? :) warmest regards Sharon Tieman aka Madame Marketing
