Referral Marketing

Thursday Jul 16, 2009

Did you know that a client that buys from you 3 times or more, is 10 times more likely to refer you on to others?

The statement above should add more proof to why it’s so important to take care of existing clients. It is important to keep in touch with your clients and keep them happy so that they continue to buy from you. This will ultimately increase your revenue in more ways than one. You’ll generate additional sales from your existing clients plus get them referring for you and through their referrals you’ll pick up new clients and generate even more revenue!

Many small business owners say that they have grown their business through word of mouth referrals. A brilliant way to grow a business, no doubt. But the truth is that far fewer actually put any thought into developing a referral marketing strategy.

The number one person who will refer your business is a happy customer.

Based on that, have you ever wondered what makes a customer refer your business?

Well, referrals are most likely to happen and be successful when a number of factors play nicely together.

  1. There must be no risk. Your customer needs to know, like and trust you to enable them to have confidence in referring you.
  2. Your customer must experience exceptional product and/or service.
  3. They must be educated and have knowledge on what you offer and who it best suits.
  4. And finally, you need to Ask. Amazing how many people forget this step!

An effective Referral Marketing strategy starts with the consideration of the above factors. Have a think about your business and how this might apply. Are there any of the points above that you could improve on?

Assuming you want more clients, and you don’t want to spend big marketing dollars to get them, then consider how you can spread a referral virus and grow your business using your existing client network.
